Video interview with Oi Va Voi (1)

O My God! is the 'free' translation of the bandname Oi Va Voi. Their music is a mix between Klezmer (East European music) and dance. Toazted spoke with the 2 gentlemen about their European tour that started in Amsterdam. And why it took so long before their second album came out. They also told us what their music influences are.

Ambassador Oi Va Voi
We did an interview with Oi Va Voi. They were in town to play Amsterdam's Paradiso in the spring of 2004. Guitarist and Bassist, Nik Ammar and Leo Bryant told us about their experiences playing in Israel:
"It was an emotional experience. As a semi Jewish band it was a bit of a homecoming. The reception was fantastic but their politics give us mixed feelings. We were given ambassadorships from the Ministry of Tourism."

Lemez Lovas Interview 2004
We did an interview with trumpetist, vocalist, and pianist Lemez Lovas in February, 2004 about Oi Va Voi's music and success.
"When we try to use different types of music or be influenced by different types of music we try to do it with respect. I like to think that if people listen to our music and they know something about the culture the music comes from they also like it."

Introducing Oi Va Voi
Oi Va Voi are a unique British band that mix modern urban beats with the sounds of Eastern Europe, the Middle East and beyond. We did an interview with Sophie Solomon and Lemez Lovas in 2003 about their unique sound and fast rising success.
"We've got enough sense of who we are that we aren't going to be pursuaded by the record company to do a 500 thousand pound video and go to L.A and work with Puff Daddy and Mary J Blige."
