Jamie Scott on Park Bench Theories

No Bon Jovi, but Joni Mitchell. That's a pretty big difference with his friends at the time. But what were the first things he played and listened to? And, what did it do to him? He also tell us why he wanted to be purely an songwriter and didn't wanted alot from fame. Still, with his new record Benchpark Theories, he's in the middle of publicity. What changed?
"I thought it was just amazing. Someone with that rawness and that emotion in her voice.."

Still the process of his debut was hard. Not only did he have some personal issues, he also had trouble with the label. You’d expect an older artist when you hear these stories, but it's just the 25 year old Scott who's telling.
".. not being understood, not being given the chance to do want you want to do"

Scott always writes the music first, the lyrics usually come quite easily. Jamie tells us how this works and why it’s a lot about love. And, despite the trouble you have to go trough to get them on a record, how nice it is to let the words take a song like Weeping Willow and Shadows to ‘a place where they should be’. We also talk about the role pop-music writer Tracy Ackerman had.
"God's honest truth, with my last album they thought they hadn't anything that could get even near radio play"

Jamie Scott might be on the verge of getting big, yet he still has to mind his banking-account. That's why playing alone or without a drummer is an option for Scott. It's not only for saving, but it can also add something to a song. Finally, we talk about some musical heroes -Jamie met with Cat Stevens- and which song would he like to cover..?
"..that Bob Dylan track, I could never write anything near what he achieved with that song"
